Lahore: (NewsBreaked) Federal Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has become active on the diplomatic front on the changing situation in Afghanistan. He has telephoned the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Turkey, and Belgium to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi wrote on the social networking website Twitter that he had a telephone conversation with the Turkish Foreign Minister.
He wrote that a peaceful Afghanistan is very important for Pakistan and the region, a comprehensive political settlement is the best way forward.
On the other hand, the Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium and the Foreign Minister have telephoned Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The two Foreign Ministers discussed the situation in Afghanistan.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan was assisting in the early evacuation of diplomatic staff from different countries from Kabul.
The Belgian Foreign Minister thanked the Pakistani leadership for its assistance in evacuating the diplomatic staff.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Heiko Moss also had a telephone conversation with Shah Mehmood. The current situation in Afghanistan was discussed between the two Foreign Ministers.
The Foreign Minister said that peace in Afghanistan is essential for peace and stability in the region. Pakistan considers a comprehensive political settlement necessary for lasting peace in Afghanistan. Pakistan has always supported a comprehensive political settlement of the Afghan issue. There is a need for the international community to play its part in providing economic assistance to Afghans on a humanitarian basis.
Similarly, Shah Mehmood Qureshi also had a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during which bilateral relations and the changing situation in Afghanistan were discussed.
The Foreign Minister said that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is important not only for Pakistan but for the entire region. Pakistan has always supported the Afghan peace process.
In addition, Federal Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had a telephone conversation with OIC Secretary-General Dr. Yousuf Al-Uthaymeen in which the current situation in Afghanistan was discussed.
During the telephone call, the Federal Foreign Minister said that Pakistan was committed to playing a constructive and positive role in bringing peace to Afghanistan and hoped that the Afghan leaders would benefit from the ongoing talks for the resolution of their differences and for a comprehensive political settlement. The success of the ongoing talks in Kabul will be a boon not only for Afghanistan but for the region as a whole. The United States needs to ensure the security and protection of the rights of Afghan citizens.
The Foreign Minister called on the international community to play its part in providing economic assistance to Afghans for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Afghanistan. The Muslim Ummah also has a responsibility to show solidarity with Afghans for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan, which seeks a broad-based government in Kabul.
